Spring Payday

I think we planted at least 10,000 daffodils last fall and at long last our clients are finally getting their money's worth. The undisputed champion of the Narcissus family, daffodils are the easiest way to add life to the early spring garden. There are hundreds of cultivars and almost all are deer and rabbit resistant.

Most people plant one bulb to a hole but Eric Groft of Oehme, van Sweden & Associates has a different method. He plants a handful of bulbs to one hole ignoring the conventional wisdom that the bulbs need to be planted with the pointed end facing up. By clumping the daffodils this way it makes a big, immediate impression in the spring.
